Evaluation of my radio project

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
i think that my show can be considered a relatively descent use of real media products as it uses many media conventions.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
my radio show doesnt aim at a particular social group as it is aimed at the majority of social groups. my show should appeal to a mass audience due to the process used to select the music played, which envolves the most downloaded songs within the past 7 days from itunes.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
in order for my radio show to be properly distributed it would need a lot more funding to take off the the ground. Many purchases would be needed such as equiptment and premeses to operate from. i would also need to rent out a radio frequency or a space on another channel, though this would be either very expensive or pointless as the most listened to shows are placed at optimum times such as rush hour.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience that would most likely listen to my show would be those in the range found from my research. they would be from a variation of ages that are interested in the latest songs in the charts.
dominantly the audience will be from the age of 16 upwards. This will be due to the hours of the show, as they would be quite early in the morning, when everyone is on there way to work/school.

How did you attract/address your audience?
i attracted my audience by just being entirely an awesome radio show. i dont insult my consumers as certain radio shows do and i try to keep everyone interested, not only by the music played, but also by the interesting guests and topics of conversation.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
whilst making this project i have learnt how to use the program garageband, though i still have a lot to learn. i have enjoyed using this program, though my bias against macs is still present. if the program was available for windows i would definately use it all the time. i fear that without the use of this program i would not have been able to accomplish this project.

Making the project

To start my project i began lloking through some of the default loops that were on garageband to find some that i liked and thought may work well on a radio jingle. after i had a large selction of prefered loops i started filtering out the ones that wouldnt go well together eg. a heavy metal drum line and a blues guitar.

Once i had found a selction that complimented each other, i began to put them together, t0 create my catchy jingle.
Once i had created my jingle i had to introduce the voices of myself and my guest but in order to add the the voices, they needed to be recorded.

When i began to record my voice for my show and replayed what i had done i realised that i had recorded a lot of unwanted background noise, so i went outside to retry. unfortunately it was blowing a gale and when i replayed it i could barely hear myself over the hissing wind. eventually i decided to come back after school and record it when no one was there. It was a success and i could finally put on my almost complete show.

I then realised i had still to cast my celebrity guest and seeing as i could not get hold of a celebrity at such short notice i decided to use someone from my class as my celebrity guests voice. in order to choose who my classmate would be, or whose song i would give him credit for, i used the shuffle feature on my itunes on my home computer. this would a random choice of almost 8,000 songs. the result i came up with was 'Fort Minor - Remember the Name'

i then played my radio show and realised that i needed background music/tune during my conversation with my guest. i looked through the default loops and found 2 soft guitar pieced that worked well with each other. they would however drown out the voices and so i had to adjust the sound levels for those instruments.

i once again replayed my radio show to discover another fault with it. i need the jingle to fade out so that i could begin talking as an abrupt stop didn't work to well. once i had achieved this my radio show was complete.

Plan

I have done all the research required for my radio show and now i can actually create it. my jingle will have to be relatively catchy and not in the slightest bit annoying.

My celebrity guest will need to be interesting and loveable to all audiences.

Audience
I will aim my show towards the majority of consumers that said they would listen to my show according to my research.

Content
The content of my radio show is going to be deduced by the the mostly downloaded tunes from itunes. some songs that are played will be by my guests. my show will therefor play a number of genres though avoiding some of the less popular ones.

My Guest
for my celebrity guest, it will have to be someone popular and not despises by a number of the consumers. the guest will have to be interesting and preferably humourous.

Application to be used

The applications that i have chosen to use for this project is Garageband, on Apple macs. with it i can create a jingle without any complications. i can use it to create my jingle without having to record any actual instruments. they can be i can use it to play around with pieces of my jingle any adjust any sound levels, there by making the transition from the jingle to the talking smoother

Questionnaire

In order to find out what types of music my radio station should play, I have created a survey to research some information to make my radio more successful. I need to find out what types of music peopel like as i like most genres and that doesnt help me narrow it down. i am going to aim at both guys and girls so im not going to overly bias it to one gender. I need to research the age group of my consumers, as age will infleunce the genre and conversations contained on the show.
How old are you?

Target Audience

The target audience I have chosen is all people that listen to modern music. My target audience is going to mirror a section of my own music tastes. This open selection of music allows me to have a ranging variation of guests.

My target audience is a mass audience and the music chosen will be deduced by weekly downloads download
